First Public Announcement: Rev. Moon Declares Himself "Messiah"

The Rev. Sun Myung Moon has publicly declared himself to be the "world's new Messiah" at the opening session of the Assembly of World Religions held in San Francisco, California.

The event was a lavish expenses-paid event sponsored and funded by Moon's own Unification Church and was held at the Airport Hyatt Regency in San Francisco.

Moon announced that the world must find its "True Parent," a term often used by Moon to describe himself.

He added, "This person is the Messiah. To help fulfill this purpose I have been called upon by God," (The Christian Informer, 8/31/90, p. 7).
