Jesus: The Awesome Creator

David Henke

Because the Watchtower teaches man-made doctrines there are numerous opportunities to show their inconsistency with scripture and with the Watchtower's own doctrine. In other words when the Watchtower comments on one subject it may be contradicting itself elsewhere.

This was beautifully illustrated in the August 8, 1991 Awake! magazine article "A Tiny Giant" (pp. 24, 25).

Beginning with the description of the size of the earth compared to that of the sun and our galaxy the article shows how fantastically large is our universe. A recently discovered galaxy called Abell 2029 is believed to be the largest ever discovered. It is about 60 times the size of our own Milky Way.

In the last paragraph the Awake articles concludes, "Our brains cannot even begin to grasp the immensity of these vast collections of stars or the vast distances involved. So, what about the creative, organizing force behind it all? `Raise your eyes high up and see. It is the One who is bringing forth the army of them even by number, all of whom he calls even by name.' (Isaiah 40:26) If the creation is awesome, how much more awesome is the Creator!"

The point of the article is excellent as far as it goes but how many Jehovah's Witnesses will stop to think as they read it that the Watchtower teaches that Jehovah (the Father according to their doctrine) created only one thing directly, the Logos, or Jesus. It was Jesus according to the Watchtower who created "all other things" (Colossians 1:16 NWT; Insight, Vol. 1, p. 527).

Hence, Jesus is the "awesome Creator" they are unwittingly praising.

A question that could be posed to a Jehovah's Witness regards the Almighty power of God. Ask him for an example of "almighty" power being exercised. If he says creation is an example point him to John 1:3 and Colossians 1:16. These texts say that creation was not only by Jesus, but also for Him.

If he says Jesus' resurrection is an example show him John 2:19-21 where Jesus says, "I will raise it up." The Jehovah's Witness will likely say this power was given to Jesus by Jehovah (the Father) thus it was not His own power by which He did these works. However, if these are examples of "Almighty" power in action then for the time that Jesus was excercising this power there were two Almighties in the Universe.
