Articles on Scientology

Corrections:

Two statements made in the Expositor article "L. Ron Hubbard: The Man and His Myth" (Vol. 13, No. 5, 1996) have been challenged by some Expositor readers.

The first was, "However, a national office spokesperson estimated the average age of the Eagle Scouts as 11, with some as young as 10" (p. 17). This was an accurate report of what was told to Watchman by national office representatives. Watchman has since learned that this estimate was inaccurate. Eagle Scouts are usually two to three years older.

Hubbard's claim to be the youngest Eagle Scout in history is still unverifiable, as Boy Scout records from that time did not record the age of Eagle Scouts.

The second was the statement that the rank of Commander is "between Captain and Rear Admiral" (p. 18). The rank of Commander does not fall between Captain and Rear Admiral.

What should have been stated is that a Scientology publication claimed Hubbard became a Commodore in 1943, a rank we are told is between Captain and Rear Admiral (John Atack, A Piece of Blue Sky, p. 75).
