Wendy Peterson, Stories of Contextualization: Following Jesus in an Indian Way

While it may be a small step for many North American indigenous persons to follow Jesus; it is an unfathomable leap for many of them to be “Christian”. Contextualization provides hope in view of a legacy of hopelessness. Yet, the mention of contextualization raises objections and fear of syncretism, often without listening to the heart or understanding the worldview of the people. This workshop will seek to lead discussion about doing apologetics and evangelism in a more meaningful and successful way by seeking wisdom from Acts and by understanding native traditions and culture. Although the focus is indigenous North Americans, the application is appropriate to any cross-cultural or cross-worldview relationship.
